3 STRIPES IN MOTION

Wednesday, 1.07.2015 | no comments

At their essence, adidas and Yohji Yamamoto are united in their endless quest to define and dress one singular object: the human body in motion. For Spring/Summer 2016, Y-3 delivers a bold, iconic collection that explores a kinetic grace with sheer, fluid, ultra-light pieces designed to move – the 3 Stripes in Motion.

Presented during Paris Men’s Fashion Week at the Lycée Carnot on Sunday, June 28, 2015, the collection signifies a return to the graphic simplicity of both Yamamoto’s work and adidas’ three-stripe motif. Heightening the theme, men’s and women’s pieces debuted side by side against the backdrop of an avant-garde performance by “TAO Dance Theater” and choreography by Tao Ye”, a fearless gesture of modern movement.

Since its launch in 2003, Y-3 has remained fascinated by movement, pioneering a futuristic sport-style that at its very essence enables the body to move—faster, stronger, more elegant. Inspired by Yamamoto’s desire for a brave new energy, Y-3 revisits this central idea as the core message of the season – the 3 Stripes in Motion. “It’s time to move,” says Yamamoto. “This is life’s only constant, and I was enchanted by the beauty and simplicity of the body in motion. This was my only inspiration.”

adidas Originals Consortium Rod Laver VIN

Tuesday, 5.05.2015 | posted in All, Products | no comments

Based on the 1970s Tournament Edition, the Rod Laver VIN receives a luxurious update for spring 2015.

The shoe clearly embodies a rigorous attitude in regards to the design principle of “less is more”. While the original model had already been stripped of all branding–except for the Rod Laver name tag at the heel–this latest version goes even further as there is no logo to be found anywhere on the upper.

As a result the material treatment receives all of the well-deserved attention. In this case it is an almost lifelike crocodile-skin embossing on the side panels. The masterful execution in black or white premium leather as well as the balance between plain and patterned elements make up for the appeal of this new design. Apart from the upper, the shoes also feature full leather lining and a leather insole that due to its natural moisture-wicking capabilities enhances wear comfort. Slim cotton laces–black on black and cream on white–round off the reserved yet intricate overall design of the Rod Laver VIN which fuses aesthetics of formal footwear with the characteristics of a sneaker.

The adidas Originals Consortium Rod Laver VIN will be available at No74 Berlin, No42 Paris and select Consortium retailers worldwide from May 9th.

adidas Originals = PHARRELL WILLIAMS Campaign

Tuesday, 28.10.2014 | posted in All | no comments

The collaboration between adidas and Pharrell Williams is built on a vibrant sense of optimism, highlighting the importance of equality. Consequently, these same principles are the driving force behind the collection’s new campaign, captured through the lens of celebrated photographer, Ryan McGinley, art directed by Lloyd & Co. and styled by esteemed fashion editor, Jay Massacret.

Featuring a cast of millennials of all races, ethnicities, and genders, the campaign depicts people from all walks of life, coming together in ways that signify unity and acceptance. Aerial views of groups forming shapes and symbols are combined with portraits of pairs of people sharing “real”, often-times poignant and personal moments. These colorful, fun, and optimistic scenes epitomize and embody the spirit of Pharrell Williams and his ongoing work with adidas Originals.

The campaign debuts with imagery focusing on product from the collection’s second, tennis-inspired delivery.  Throughout, groups of people are seen from above, uniting in a field of green to form an equal sign, the ultimate symbol signifying togetherness, acceptance and strength. Each ‘part’ of the larger ‘whole’ to come, is a unique, distinct individual. Yet, once together, they form a stronger unit, one that communicates optimism and hope. The result is the absolute, visual expression of equality, conveying a synergy that can only be found through true connection.

Quote’s Archive – illustrated by peter O’toole and the ZX420 Quotoole

Friday, 24.10.2014 | posted in All, Products | 2 comments

Quote’s Archive brings together two dedicated adidas collectors and marries an in-depth knowledge and passion for classic adidas footwear with highly distinctive illustration.

Freelance illustrator Peter O’Toole and renowned adidas collector Quote first became aware of each other circa 2005 on the Crooked Tongues forum, where information was traded between some of the world’s most knowledgeable footwear fanatics. In January 2011 O’Toole brought his two passions together with his ‘City Series’ prints, illustrating almost 200 vintage adidas trainers over two posters and capturing Quote’s imagination in the process. The third poster became O’Toole and Quote’s first collaboration, an illustration of 98 pairs selected by Quote from his own collection. It wasn’t long before adidas invited the pair to develop the project further, into a limited edition book.

Selecting 50 shoes from the original print, O’Toole and Quote worked together across Berlin and the UK without meeting each other in person until after the project was complete. Whilst O’Toole developed his illustrations, Quote wrote about each shoe, pulling together history and facts about design and materials with personal anecdotes and associations, providing a window into his journey as a collector.
As the book project drew to a close, Quote and O’Toole were rewarded with a dream-come-true moment, a visit to the adidas archive in Herzogenaurach and the opportunity to design a shoe to accompany the book. The ZX 420 was an easy choice of model for both O’Toole and Quote. Using the adidas ‘Denver’ as inspiration for the vintage feel colourway, the Quotoole is a fitting representation of the work and passion of both collaborators.

The Book as well as the shoe will be pre-released at No74 Berlin on October 25th.
